This is just a quick reminder about the upcoming series at the Mt Baker Community Club, starting this coming Monday, April 22 (at a new time!)
I’ve gone back and forth on a theme this time around, excited about the interest in hips, shoulders, core, balance, and our conversations about contentment and the carry-over of yoga practice off the mat. So we’ll try to keep weaving all these pieces into the practice, even as we focus in on the core and balance in this late spring series. We’ll investigate standing balances, arm balances, core strength and flexibility…. and ultimately look at how these practices can help us find balance ease in the rest of our lives off the mat. My secret hope is that for those of you made nervous by the phrase “arm balance,” you’ll come and be surprised by how much you can do!
If you plan to take the series, please sign-up online (even if you plan to bring a check to the first class) – follow the link to “register.” If drop-ins work better for you, no need to sign up. And please forward/share with anyone who might be interested in joining us.

Yoga for Anxiety and Depression in Columbia City
I’m also honored to be teaching part of the upcoming “Yoga for Anxiety and Depression” series, a class taught by fabulous yoga teacher and yoga therapist Laura Humpf. The class is Wednesday mornings, and I’ll be teaching the first two of the six classes in the series. The class is meant for everyone, since we have all experienced these emotions on some level and at some point in our lives. Come see how yoga can be a helpful tool during challenging times.
Wednesdays from 8-9:15am, starting tomorrow. www.lotusyoga.biz. The series runs April 3 – May 8.
I’m writing with a few Mt. Baker Yoga updates.
First of all, there will be class tomorrow, Monday, at 9 am as usual. If you have President’s Day day off, come join us to start your week off with yoga. We’ll be finishing up the series on hips, seat, and meditation, so come ready for some warming movement, hip opening, and relaxation.
And, since we have room for more in our lovely, cozy-but-spacious community center, I invite you to bring friends (or if you haven’t been before, come for the first time!). New students’ first class is free for the rest of February. Regular drop-in rate is $10-15, sliding scale.
Regular schedule continues:
Mondays, 9 – 10 am
Wednesdays, 7-8:15 pm*
*Please note, there will be no class the week of March 11.
Next six-week series starts next week
In the next series we will turn our focus from our seat and pelvis up into the spine, especially focusing on twists. Yoga asana (postures) that twist the body can get deep into the spine and digestive organs, and their asymmetry can bring playfulness to your practice. So come play! Please sign up online for the series – $50/six classes. Sign up online for Mondays here, or Wednesdays here. You can pay through paypal or bring a check to the first class.
Classes will be
Mondays – Feb. 25, March 4, 18, 25, April 1, 8
Wednesdays – Feb. 27, March 6, 20, 27, April 3, 10
(again, note no class March. 11/13)
And finally, a poem about practice that I came across recently in the newest anthology of Poetry of Yoga that spoke to me.
The end of brute force
of letting go
putting one foot
in front of the other
until you’ve uncovered it

I’m writing with some updates to the yoga schedule at the Mt. Baker Community Clubhouse.
First, a reminder that this Wednesday – tomorrow – we will start yoga 15 minutes earlier. Wednesday evening yoga will go from 7 pm – 8:15 pm. Here is the rest of the December schedule, as well as the information about the next six week session.

Wednesday, 12/19 – 7-8:15 pm

12/24 and 12/26 – no class
Monday, 12/31 – 9-10 am – We will have class on New Year’s Eve morning! We’ll look at intentions AND acceptance, playing, as always with holding space for both, on and off the mat.
Wednesday, Jan. 2 – 7-8:15 pm
Drop in prices (except 12/22) are $10-15/class
We will resume with the six-week sessions, Jan. 7 – Feb. 11 (Mondays) and Jan. 9 – Feb. 13 (Wednesdays). Preregistration will be open online in the next few days. You can also pre-register by bringing a $50 check to any class before Jan.7.
This next session will focus on finding/exploring our seat, physically (especially exploring the hips), mentally (including looking at the idea and practice of contentment), and energetically.
**Winter Solstice Celebration Class**
Saturday morning, Dec. 22, 9-10:30 am.
Come move and then settle into your body as we welcome the darkest days of the year, as well as the transition toward more light. We will do a moving asana (yoga posture) practice, then some longer holding of restoratives (restful poses), and time for meditation at the end. There will also be time for tea and snacks and getting to know your fellow yoga-travelers afterward.
Solstice class will be $15-20 for the 1 1/2 hour long class.
Finally – I apologize for sending out more emails than usual lately. Please let me know any time if you’d like to be removed from my list.
I wish you a peaceful, joyous December, and I look forward to seeing you soon!
